Austin Energy is an electric company in Austin, a publicly owned utility that supplies electricity to Austin residents. The company was founded in 1895 and is one of the oldest and most respected electric companies in Texas. The electric company serves more than one million residents of Austin and surrounding areas.

Most electricity is generated by traditional fuels: gas, coal and oil. About 15% of the energy comes from a nuclear power plant. Much of the electricity is generated from renewable sources and energy. Wind power generates 1,425 megawatts of electricity, and solar panels produce about 644 megawatts of electricity.
