Power Generation

The vast majority of electricity in Ohio is generated from traditional electricity sources. More than 82% of electricity is generated from gas and coal-fired power plants. Transmission Grid

The Ohio electrical grid is part of Eastern Interconnection, the second-largest alternating-current electrical grid. The ReliabilityFirst (RF) was founded in 2006 to ensure the reliability of electricity supply in northeastern states, including Ohio. PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM) is a regional transmission organization dedicated to installing and maintaining transmission lines in thirteen states, including Ohio. It has a total of over 7,200 miles of transmission lines.

Renewable Sources

Electricity from renewable sources accounts for about 4% of Ohio's electricity. More than half of the electricity is generated from wind farms.
