American Municipal Power in Columbus

American Municipal Power (AMP) is a nonprofit corporation located in Columbus, Ohio. The corporation was founded in 1971. American Municipal Power owns and operates electric power plants and electric distribution grids. Due to its scale, the company is able to offer consumers electricity at low prices. In Ohio, the company's customers include more than 500,000 residents.

The company's power plants generate more than 576 MW of electricity. The energy portfolio consists of classical energy sources (oil, gas, coal) as well as hydroelectric power plants and wind farms. AMP Transmission formed to plan, build, own and operate transmission facilities. AMP offers a green-pricing program, EcoSmart Choice, to promote the use of green electricity.
